Kishorn Port Ltd (KPL) has landed its first major contract and will now host the largest semi-submersible offshore drilling rig in the world – the Ocean GreatWhite – in early 2019.
Owned by drilling contractor Diamond Offshore, the 60,800-tonne vessel requires deep water for anchoring, with Loch Kishorn providing ideal sheltered conditions. During its station, the rig will be made ready for its drilling program, with marine agency and stevedoring support from Ferguson Transport and Shipping. It is then slated to begin a drilling contract in the North Sea early in 2019.
KPL was created as a joint venture between and Leiths (Scotland) Ltd and Ferguson Transport and Shipping in 2008. With the Kishorn Yard having been largely dormant since the early 1990s, the venture has sought to promote regeneration of the dry dock as a major facility for manufacturing, decommissioning and support to the North Sea oil and gas sector.
