Health, Safety and Environment

Delivering safe and environmentally sound operations

OEUK brings industry together to maintain constant vigilance in our approach to the health, safety, security and environmental performance of our operations.

Within these workstreams we engage senior leaders and subject matter experts to connect strategic planning and decision making with frontline operations. This can include sharing best practice, developing industry guidance in cooperation with our membership and external stakeholders, and delivering a wide range of conferences.

OEUK’s vital role in collating and sharing best practice is mentioned within the Safety Case Regulations.

Within our work groups we bring member Subject Matter Experts and industry stakeholders together to boldly tackle industry safety challenges. As a result, over 30 guidelines and technical reports are available for our membership. We hold regular workshops to share best practice across a range of topics from Process Safety Leadership to Emergency Response.

OEUK is the focal point for collating safety statistics and reporting on performance. We work closely with regulators and members to spot emerging trends and drive continuous improvement. Our Health, Safety & Environment Report is published annually.

Our annual HSE Conference is a must attend for safety leaders.

OEUK Offshore Medicals are a key tool that reduce the risk of acute medical emergencies occurring offshore.

Adopted across the UK energy sectors for offshore workers this is regarded as the gold standard of medical assessment across the globe with over 150,000 medical assessments occurring in 2022. We continue to promote occupation health and hygiene good practice via our technical working groups with operators, and are closely aligned with industry initiatives on mental health and wellbeing.

Protecting the environment is at the heart of everything we do at OEUK.

As well as supporting our members in compliance, we facilitate opportunities for organisations and individuals to make a positive impact on the environment, above and beyond their regulatory requirements. Our technical working groups cover a range of environmental needs, from the circular economy to chemical compliance and response to offshore environmental incidents.

OEUK engages with UK and devolved governments in relation to security of supply issues including fortnightly engagements, workshops and information sharing about evolving security threats.

Our security work includes guidelines for Offshore Installation Managers and Protestor Protocols.

We are engaged with national resilience efforts directly with the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, and via local resilience partnerships. We support our members by holding practical resilience workshops and host the industry resilience group that consists of regulatory, government stakeholders and energy companies.

Offshore helicopter operations are vital for effective and safe offshore operations.

The safety record of UK helicopter operations is one of the best in the world. OEUK continues to engage with helicopter operators, regulators and member companies via the Aviation Safety Technical Group and provides learnings and insights at the annual Offshore Aviation Conference. We retain 50 years of offshore helicopter data which is used for trend monitoring and quantitative risk assessment.
