OEUK Policy
It is OEUK policy that all persons working offshore shall be examined periodically and classified as medically fit to work in the offshore environment
OEUK registered physicians will:
- Have knowledge of the offshore environment and remote medicine
- Demonstrate knowledge of, or possess a qualification in, occupational medicine
- Have access to appropriate examination facilities
- Undertake an OEUK one-day training programme in offshore medical assessment – it is expected attendees will have sufficient understanding of and ability in spoken English to participate in the training without an interpreter
- Understand the principles of the risk-based approach embodied in these guidelines.

Please note: any application received prior to October 1st in any calendar year is due for renewal by 31st December in that same calendar year. Any applications made on, or after 1st October will be due for renewal by 31st December the following year.

If you require to check the validity of an issued certificate, contact the examining doctor who issued it – their contact details should be on the certificate. If you wish to confirm that an examining doctor is on the OEUK list, here are the links to the lists:

It is possible that a doctor will leave the list for entirely legitimate reasons after issuing a certificate – if it is not clear from the list itself, or if the doctor issuing a certificate does not appear to be on the list, contact [email protected] to check the status of the doctor.
The mutual recognition of medicals does NOT extend to mutual recognition of the additional medicals for those involved in Emergency Response duties.

If you are a UK based doctor, please follow the same processYour application will be reviewed by the OEUK Medical Adviser to ensure it meets the requirements. After it has been approved you will need to attend a Doctor’s Training Workshop.

You will need to complete an application form, and supply a copy of your current (within past year) audiometer calibration certificate. If you are not on the UK General Medical Council register, you will also need to provide documentary evidence of your current medical registration with your national medical registration/licensing body.

Yes – it is mandatory for any doctor who wishes to be included on the examining doctors’ register to attend the Doctors’ workshop – details of which can be found u003ca href=u0022https://oeuk.org.uk/events/u0022u003eon our events pages.u003c/au003e

Your PIN will be issued to the email address you provide on your application form – please try to ensure that this is one which will reach you personally: if you use an email address such as ‘info@…’ or ‘admin@…’, you will need to ensure that this is monitored for PIN, renewal, and other communications from OEUK.
If you do not receive your PIN within one week of attending the workshop, please check your junk email folder just in case the confirmation email got delivered there instead of your inbox. If so, select the confirmation message and click Not Junk, which will allow future messages to get through.
Your contact details will be included on the publically-available website listing of OEUK registered doctors within one week of attending the workshop and submitting all necessary documentation.

No – you do not need to repeat the training course once done. However, there is an annual OEUK examining doctor meeting/conference, and you are encouraged to attend that. Doctors who have not attended a conference at least once within 5 years will have their registration status reviewed.
