This guideline was developed as part of the industry response to the Health & Safety Executive’s Key Programme 4 (KP4) initiative. Oil and Gas UK established technical work groups with the aim of producing a number of guidance documents related to ageing and life extension. This document focuses on the ageing and life extension issues associated with subsea pipeline systems, incorporating input from a work group of the Pipeline User Group (PLUG).

This document is intended to offer practical guidance to pipeline/subsea technical authorities, engineering/operations managers, design teams, support functions, subsea intervention teams, inspection contractors and independent verification bodies (IVB) alike.

The document also supplements the existing Oil & Gas UK guidance document that focuses on high-level management of ageing and life extension issues; “Guidance on the Management of Ageing and Life Extension for UKCS Oil and Gas Installations”, issue 1 April 2012.
