The 7th Edition of OEUK’s medical guidelines on fitness for offshore work will replace the 2008, 6th Edition, on the 1st October 2024.

The new guidelines have been sent directly to all examining doctors. They are available here for members, operators, employers and other interested parties to download in preparation for implementation on the 1st October 2024.

Changes to the new guidelines include an entirely new section on fitness for work on normally-unattended installations (NUIs). They are therefore also applicable to non-oil-and-gas installations, if these are considered by their operator to be NUIs.

Other changes include a revised medical certificate, intended to provide easier confirmation of fitness for certain specific work tasks offshore, including ‘fitness-to-train’, and revision of the former ‘restricted certificate process’ to reduce the potential for inappropriate application of this.

Forthcoming events to explain the key features of the new guidelines and answer any questions for operators, employers and other interested parties are being planned and will be announced shortly.

Please note that the existing guidelines (6th Edition, 2008) should continue to be used up to and including the 30th September 2024, please find the 6th Edition, 2008 here
