The leading representative body for the offshore oil and gas industry, OGUK, has today responded to a landmark United Nations Methane Report that states drastically cutting emissions is necessary to avoid the worst impacts of global climate change. OGUK Energy Policy Manager Will Webster said: “Last year, flaring from the offshore oil and gas industry was down by 22%. “However, as one of the first industrial sectors to agree to ambitious net-zero targets and publish a comprehensive roadmap for achieving our climate goals, we know there is always more work to be done. “We’re committed to taking action and driving change in this area – working with members on a progressive Methane Action Plan, a key deliverable of the recently agreed North Sea Transition Deal, that will drive industry efforts and reduce routine flaring and venting across the basin. “In the year where COP26 comes to Glasgow and the eyes of the world are on us, we must continue paving the way for the sustainable future we all want to see. “We look forward to publishing this plan as another important milestone for our changing sector in the coming months.” |
