Tide Breaker selects first start‑ups to accelerate subsea AI innovation

10 February 2026

Tide Breaker, a digital initiative created to speed up the development of AI solutions for subsea operations, has announced its first two successful applicants. Launched in late 2025 by Aberdeen‑based software company Elementz, the programme gives start‑ups access to datasets to support testing and refine solutions in line with subsea operator needs.

Following a competitive selection process, two North East companies, Fathom and Voltquant, have joined the first cohort. Fathom will develop a physics‑based, AI‑enabled structural analysis digital twin to assess asset life, performance and risk. Voltquant will deploy its digital engineer platform to automate compliance checks and support consistent decision‑making, along with its AI Risk Intelligence system to enhance subsea integrity management through structured, evidence‑linked insights.

Elementz CEO Jason Brown said:
“The exceptional calibre of our first round of applicants and pair of winners reinforces why Tide Breaker was set up, and the need to accelerate their exposure to major operators, remove opaqueness and get solutions into the hands of users.

“By supporting up-and-coming companies and products at an early stage, and fostering their ambition and ingenuity, we are committed to using the power of collaboration, trust and integration to transform and modernise the subsea sector in ways that strengthen the blue digital ecosystem and achieve the best possible outcomes across our industry.”
