Bilfinger is to work with long-duration energy storage business Highview Power on the UK’s first commercial liquid air energy storage facility, it said June 21. Surplus green electricity will compress gas into a liquid for tank storage. When allowed to return to its gaseous state it will drive turbines, generating electricity without combustion.
The planned large-scale plant will have output of 50 MW and a capacity of 300 MWh and it is designed to serve as a buffer and provide grid stabilisation services.
Bilfinger will be responsible for comprehensive procurement and construction services including civil works and equipment installation.
“With a dedicated team of approximately 200 Bilfinger employees deployed at the customer’s site, we’re excited to deliver this transformative project,” Bilfinger said.
