“ It’s vital to remain adaptable to change while embracing continuous learning as the industry evolves.”

Eduarda Zanetti is half-Brazilian and half-Italian. Having started her career at Wood as an Integrity Engineer in her homeland of Brazil, she moved to Aberdeen, Scotland in 2023. Eduarda is now seconded at bp as a Life of Field Project Coordinator, managing work initiation for Wells, Production and Projects areas within the subsea discipline.

My journey in oil and gas began more than a decade ago when I started my degree in Petroleum Engineering in Brazil. I chose to study this as I was excited at the prospect of a dynamic and challenging career while supporting the world to meet its growing energy needs. I was also drawn to the idea of working overseas and the professional growth opportunities that come with international exposure. In 2023, I was working as an Integrity Engineer at Wood when I transferred from Rio de Janeiro to Aberdeen.

Having spent a year working on consultancy projects as an Asset Integrity Management Engineer, a secondment opportunity arose with one of our clients, bp. Now in my role as Life of Field Project Coordinator, supporting multiple teams across bp’s North Sea, Egypt, Mauritania, and Senegal, I oversee a range of essential activities crucial to project success. I am tasked with orchestrating projects within the Life of Field discipline, specifically focusing on facilitating subsea operations around Wells, Projects, and Operations (production) areas. A key element of my responsibilities involves closely managing stakeholders to ensure the readiness for offshore operations, and I enjoy the project, commercial and contract management activities this entails.

I am always keen to take on my next challenge and am proud to have co-created and led the ‘Learning and Development Integrity Management Europe’ initiative within Wood which promotes the career and technical development of the respective teams. My time at Wood has allowed me to delve further into my passion for mentoring. To promote the power of connections, I co-founded the Women in Energy (WIN) Brazil network, leading and managing a team of 13 volunteers for more than four years to champion diversity and inclusion in the energy industry This initiative has been widely successful, reaching more than 17,000 people.

The diversity of projects I’ve worked on is something I cherish, I’ve project managed a variety of scopes including software maintenance and support contracts, to technical integrity management scopes with CNOOC and Harbour Energy. I’m also involved in engineering scopes to assess the integrity of the subsea, pipelines and topsides, performing integrity management project analysis to improve profit and find new business opportunities for clients.

I believe that by leveraging its expertise, infrastructure and resources, the oil and gas industry can play a pivotal role in facilitating the energy transition. To me, a sustainable energy industry means connecting and pursuing an efficient and diverse energy source matrix – whether this be via energy portfolio diversification; investing in other energy technologies such as solar, wind and biofuels; working with CCS; or oil and gas industry collaborating with governments, academia and other stakeholders to drive innovation, policy development and investment in more diverse energy solutions.

If you are considering joining the energy industry, apart from the relevant experience and skills, it’s important to build a strong network of fellow industry professionals whom you can learn from as you advance throughout your career. It’s also vital to remain adaptable to change while embracing continuous learning as the industry evolves.
