OEG Training Equips Offshore Sector for CAA Changes for Helicopter Landing Areas

16 January 2026

OEG is preparing for a sharp rise in helicopter refuelling training demand as the offshore sector gets ready for new mandatory Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) certification requirements under CAP 437, expected to take effect in 2026. The regulation will require formal training for all personnel directly involved in offshore helicopter refuelling, an area OEG is already equipped to support through its OPITO-accredited Helicopter Refuelling Training (HRT) programme.

OEG’s Helicopter Refuelling Training Centre in Portlethen, Aberdeenshire, is the only UK facility using DefStan 91-091 compliant JET A-1 fuel, rather than water-based analogues, providing realistic, hands-on training that mirrors offshore conditions. The bespoke system, designed and engineered in-house, includes static and transportable tanks, pumps, filtration systems, multiple nozzle types and a simulated aircraft sponson tank, allowing delegates to practice fuel handling, quality control, system set-up and emergency response.

Its one-day OPITO 9255-aligned course combines theory, assessment and intensive practical sessions for Helicopter Landing Officers and Helideck Assistants. With increasing enquiries and bookings, OEG is expanding its training team and plans to replicate its successful North Sea model internationally. The business also supports the renewables sector through its Liverpool training centre delivering Global Wind Organisation courses.
