Integrated energy company Ineos is inviting bids for the design of “a state-of-the-art carbon capture-enabled hydrogen production plant,” at its Grangemouth site, it said January 27. The contract will include an “extensive suite of related infrastructure projects.” The CO2 will be routed to the Scottish Cluster’s Acorn CCS project and save 1 million tonnes/year of emissions.
Ineos says it will cut its Grangemouth site CO2 emissions by over 60% by 2030. Access to locally produced hydrogen will have benefits for other assets at the Grangemouth Site, fuelling the existing combined heat and power plant, the KG ethylene plant and assets in the Petroineos refinery.
Ineos has already committed over £500 million on active projects across the site. It said: “We are fully committed to the Scottish Cluster CCS project. We believe it will be an important part of both Scotland and the UK’s drive to Net Zero.” The Grangemouth site is pictured below, courtesy Ineos.
