International disaster recovery specialist Lucy Easthope will provide the keynote speech at Offshore Energies’ 2025 Health, Safety and Environment Conference, it was announced today.
Renowned for her work on global crises including the 9/11 attack on New York, the Fukushima nuclear disaster, and the Grenfell Tower fire, she will share insights from her acclaimed memoir When the Dust Settles, which explores resilience, humanity, and lessons from two decades of disaster management.
Easthope who is professor in practice of risk and hazard at Durham University has pioneered methods that maximise the virtues of courage, respect and dignity in scenarios where panic and instinct are the most common reactions.
The conference will also provide an exciting choice of sessions from a packed agenda offering insight into the ever-changing issues in health, workforce safety and effective environmental management. It is being held at P&J Live in Aberdeen on 6th February 2025 and will bring together up to 500 delegates for valuable networking opportunities to share innovation and experience in different workstreams.
The opening address with an industry overview will come from David Whitehouse, chief executive at Offshore Energies UK, and the event will be chaired by Mark Wilson, HSE and operations director at OEUK.
It is being principally sponsored by Harbour Energy and TotalEnergies, with the support of CNOOC International.
Mark Wilson said: “We are very excited about what’s on offer at this year’s event. Energy development and production is a changing world at an ever-faster rate. There are constant new challenges demanding up to date knowledge and problem-solving skills.
“Our aim is to provide valuable information about latest thinking and regulatory requirements, to show health, safety and environment leaders how to make the most of new innovations, and how to take a creative approach to tackling change.
“We will also discuss future challenges for our specialist workforce as we expand further into decarbonisation and decommissioning with skilled and highly trained leadership being relevant across all sectors.”
