Aggreko and Katoni Engineering Release Whitepaper on Temporary Power for North Sea Decommissioning

25 September 2025

Aggreko and Katoni Engineering have released a whitepaper, Temporary Generation for North Sea Oil & Gas, spotlighting the growing need for low-emission, compliant power solutions in offshore decommissioning. With the UK Continental Shelf approaching peak decommissioning by 2030, operators face mounting challenges around emissions, generator availability, and continuity post-cessation of production.

The paper compares legacy Stage I–III diesel generators with modern Stage V units, highlighting how hybrid systems, including battery integration, can cut fuel use, emissions, and costs. A featured North Sea case study shows that a tailored temporary generation package helped avoid 4.5 tonnes of CO₂ emissions over a 50-day campaign, saving nearly £900,000 in fuel and £200,000 in carbon costs.

By combining Aggreko’s advanced generator fleet and logistics with Katoni’s engineering expertise, the partnership offers operators a reliable, cost-effective path to lower-emission decommissioning.
