Bethan Customs offers training on new customs declaration service

11 March 2022

Aberdeenshire-based Bethan Customs Consultancy will run its first face-to-face training course in almost two years, ahead of the new Customs Declaration Service (CDS) being fully launched at the beginning of April 2023.

UK revenue collection agency HMRC is introducing CDS as a replacement for the Customs Handling Import Export Freight (CHIEF), which will close for import declarations September 30 this year and for export declarations March 31, 2023.

The in-depth course will take place on March 21 at Bethan’s office premises in Colpy Business Park, Oldmeldrum. It follows on from a sold-out free taster session on the topic which the firm offered in early February.

.

Bethan’s Managing Director Nicola Alexander said: “All businesses involved in importing and exporting will be required to declare the goods to HMRC via CDS, either on behalf of their own business or by way of a customs agent.”

Businesses will have to provide additional information to their customs agent or freight forwarder following the change, she said, “so it’s important that personnel are aware of this well ahead of these changes.”
