Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) has today congratulated new and re-elected MSPs in Scotland, MSs in Wales, and councillors across England and stands ready to work in partnership to secure a modern industrial future powered by homegrown energy.
These election results come at a challenging moment for the UK, with growing geopolitical uncertainty and continued pressure on national security underscoring the need for homegrown energy and domestic resilience.
Collaboration between government, consumers and industry is critical to delivering economic growth, energy security and climate progress in the years ahead. The choices made in Westminster, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and across local government will determine whether the UK becomes more exposed to global volatility.
The offshore energy sector, spanning oil, gas, offshore wind, hydrogen, carbon capture, and a world-class supply chain, remains central to these goals – supporting jobs, communities, and investment across the UK.
David Whitehouse, Chief Executive of Offshore Energies UK, said:
“We stand ready to work with newly elected and re-elected representatives in Holyrood, the Senedd, and councils across the UK to secure a modern industrial future backed by homegrown energy.
“This is a testing moment. Energy security, economic resilience and the pace of global change are all sharpening, and decisions taken now will shape the UK’s industrial future for decades.
“Our industry is committed to delivering a future that is secure, prosperous and sustainable. We support jobs, drive economic growth and meet climate goals by working constructively and professionally for a balanced, depolarised conversation about the way ahead.
“The UK’s energy future is not a choice between prosperity, security or sustainability. It is about achieving all three in partnership.
“But that positive outcome is not inevitable. Without the right conditions for investment, the UK risks losing capability, weakening supply chains and increasing reliance on energy imports at a time of global uncertainty.
“It is vital that homegrown support and policy match our homegrown energy ambition, giving industry the confidence to invest, protect jobs and strengthen the UK’s energy resilience.”
OEUK is leading the call for a depolarised conversation about the UK’s energy future, in which the full energy mix – from oil and gas to renewables – is harnessed to protect and grow jobs and economic value while achieving climate commitments.
OEUK will be engaging with elected representatives across all parts of the UK in the coming days and weeks and welcomes their inquiries and proposals. OEUK’s website offers a wide range of materials to inform a balanced and responsible conversation about the UK’s energy future.
