9 January 2026

Jemma Reynolds is a Hydrogen Sales and Marketing Analyst at Hydrasun, based in Aberdeen. Hydrasun is a leading provider of hydrogen technologies, supporting the energy transition through innovation, education, and stakeholder engagement. Jemma’s journey into the energy sector is marked by a passion for sustainability, a love of sport and travel, and a commitment to making a real-world impact.

“Take every opportunity with both hands – you really do get out what you put in.”

Growing up in Ironbridge, Shropshire, Jemma was always a sporty and outdoorsy child. Her parents encouraged her to travel from a young age, and by the time she left school, she’d camped across much of Western Europe. This early exposure to new places and experiences shaped her worldview and instilled a sense of adventure.

Jemma’s academic path began with a BSc in Human Geography at Manchester University, where she continued to pursue her love of sport through netball and running sports clubs. It was during her studies that she discovered a passion for energy and sustainability, leading her to complete an MSc in Energy Management with a focus on renewables. Her research honed in on hydrogen technologies, allowing her to combine her interest in sustainability with tangible, real world impact.

After moving to Aberdeen nearly seven years ago, Jemma found her way into the energy industry and now works at Hydrasun. In her current role, she supports both future and live projects, contributing to commercial strategy, stakeholder engagement, and market development initiatives. A significant part of her job involves raising awareness and encouraging the adoption of hydrogen technologies. As a STEM ambassador, Jemma leads initiatives to inspire younger generations, contextualising exciting new hydrogen technology and promoting careers in renewables.

Among her proudest achievements is her involvement in the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub project, where Hydrasun was selected as the technology provider for a joint venture between Aberdeen City Council and bp. The project’s impact has been both technical and social, with Jemma and her team running school workshops, hosting the Scottish Hydrogen Schools Challenge at the Hydrogen Skills Academy, and taking school groups to visit the site.

Jemma believes hydrogen has huge potential to decarbonise challenging sectors and build energy resilience across regions. As the industry moves towards net zero, hydrogen will be key in integrating renewables and enabling cleaner transport and industrial processes. She is excited to be part of a sector that is increasingly focused on infrastructure, public engagement, and collaboration across disciplines.

Reflecting on her journey, Jemma emphasises the importance of networking and seizing opportunities. She credits her current role to connections made through the Women in Hydrogen Scotland group and encourages others to surround themselves with passionate people.

“There’s a real sense of momentum now. The industry is focusing more on infrastructure, public engagement, and collaboration across sectors. It feels like we’re building something meaningful and inclusive.”

Jemma’s story is a testament to the power of curiosity, resilience, and community in shaping the future of energy. Her advice to those looking to join the industry is simple: take every opportunity, network, and be open to new experiences. The energy transition is not just about technology – it’s about people, skills, and building a sustainable future together.
