Ministerial speaker confirmed for event on future of UK energy – OEUK Conference 2024

21 August 2024

The trade body for the offshore energy industry has revealed Michael Shanks MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Energy), will be opening the 2024 OEUK Conference.

Michael Shanks MP is expected to talk about the importance of the sector in a keynote speech addressing industry experts and attendees.

The trade body says the conference, taking place in the first 100 days of the new government, can provide a platform to discuss what conditions will be needed to ensure a skilled, stable and secure energy future.

Supported by principal sponsor bp and supporting sponsors Baker Hughes and Blend, the event will be held at the P&J Live in Aberdeen on September 17.

Speaking ahead of the event, OEUK CEO David Whitehouse said:

“We are pleased to welcome Michael Shanks MP as a distinguished speaker at the OEUK Conference 2024, where his insights will undoubtedly inform our discussions on the future of sustainable energy in Scotland and the wider UK.

“We continue to make a clear case for prioritising a homegrown energy transition over an imported one. The best path to achieving that is by supporting UK companies and people today so that we have a healthy project pipeline to meet our needs tomorrow.

“Stable and supportive policies, clear, long-term commitments, and surety for businesses to invest – that is what this country needs in the wake of the election. That is what this industry is asking for to deliver a skilled, secure, and sustainable future.”
