Montrose Port turns on power for vessels

3 May 2024

Montrose Port Authority (MPA) has become the first port in Scotland to provide an onshore power service for energy supply vessels, it said May 3.

It is the result of a £1mn investment between MPA and Plug Shore Power Ltd, the UK branch of Norwegian charging company, Plug. This is Plug’s first UK joint venture. Since 2019, Plug’s shore power installations have collectively saved over 52,000 tonnes of CO2.

OEUK’s HSE & Operations director Mark Wilson said: “Supply chain led innovation lies at the core of a successful homegrown energy transition, and this is a great example of companies collaborating to accelerate the drive towards reducing carbon emissions to support the delivery of net zero ambitions.
