OEUK, the leading representative body for the offshore energy industry, has today (15 September) paid tribute to Shell chief executive Ben van Beurden as it’s announced he will step down after almost ten years as the company’s CEO. He will be succeeded by head of gas and renewables Wael Sawan at the end of 2022.
Acting CEO of OEUK, Mike Tholen, commented:
“We would like to thank Ben Van Beurden for his service and the many years of dedicated leadership he has offered this industry during his tenure as CEO of Shell.
“He has played a major role in supporting this rapidly evolving sector as it strives to deliver a net zero future, and in doing so recognises the challenges facing Europe to come through the current energy crisis.
“It has been a privilege to work alongside him, and we wish him the best in his future endeavours.”
