The Asset Stewardship Taskforce, under the North Sea Transition Forum, was established to support the NSTA Strategy, in respect of both production and net zero obligations by improving asset stewardship in the UK Continental Shelf area.   A cross-industry ASTF workshop was held in June 2023 with representatives from Operators, Regulators & OEUK. The topic was split into four themes: JV Hub Strategy, Emissions Reduction Action Plan (ERAP), Learning & Sharing and Culture. The purpose of the ERAP subgroup was to undertake a holistic review of ERAP feedback and develop guidance, enhancing their visibility, and widening the decarbonisation conversations across the basin.

The ERAP subgroup has developed a guideline that outlines a framework for implementing good practices and offering guidance in planning greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction within the UK offshore energy sector.

This document is intended to help companies align their operations with the UK’s net zero emissions targets. Key areas covered include:

  • The essential components for effective emissions management, including senior leadership commitment, measurable targets, and fostering a decarbonisation culture.
  • Guidance on developing and implementing an Emissions Reduction Action Plan (ERAP). It includes steps for understanding baselines, identifying, and ranking abatement opportunities, defining pathways, refining plans, and ensuring delivery and validation.
  • The importance of accurate emissions forecasting, setting realistic targets, tracking performance through key indicators, and conducting regular performance reviews to align with industry benchmarks.
