These Guidelines for the right-scoping of wells (hereafter referred to as ‘these guidelines’) are produced by Oil & Gas UK, the leading representative body for the UK’s offshore oil and gas industry. They were written by the Right Scoping Guidelines work group whose members comprise well-operators.

The Right Scoping Guidelines work group is a sub-group of the Competitive Well Delivery Task Group who are leading the initiative on behalf of the Oil & Gas UK Wells Forum. The initiative aims to improve the competitiveness of wells activity on the UKCS to stimulate an increase in activity and to help deliver higher-value wells. The Right Scoping Guidelines fall under the ‘lean well design principles’ theme, and aim to help well-operators develop the minimum required scope for their well designs based on benchmarking, target setting and a multi-disciplinary team approach. It is hoped that uptake of these guidelines will deliver competitive, affordable, safe and credible well designs.
