Shell restarted production at the Penguins field in the UK North Sea with a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit in early February. Shell is operator with 50%, its other partner being NEO Energy. Emissions from the FPSO will be about 30% lower than before, when its export route was the Brent Charlie platform, which is now being decommissioned.
Peak production is estimated at around 45,000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe)/day) and the company might extract another 100mn boe. Although primarily an oilfield, Penguins will also produce enough gas to heat around 700,000 homes/year.
