Sodexo reaches out to the marginalised to fill skills gap

Sodexo’s Energy & Resources division is looking for ways to bridge the current skills gap. There is a particular focus on training and recruiting ex-offenders, which also reduces the chances of their reoffending. Homeless people are another resource.

A business roundtable at its Aberdeen offices mid-November (below) brought together senior business leaders and HMP Addiewell personnel, along with Sean Haley, CEO Sodexo UK&I, to tackle the problems creatively.

A survey commissioned earlier this year by Sodexo revealed that 62% of UK businesses in the private sector taking part in the research were struggling to recruit. Ex-offenders could partly solve this challenge and at the same time find ways to return to society with less risk of re-offending.
