The Noble Innovator jack-up rig (see image below) became the largest ever vessel to visit Port of Aberdeen when it docked February 11, the port said. It will stay at the newly expanded £400mn South Harbour for several months’ maintenance before heading off to decommission BP-operated rigs in the central North Sea.
Work will include painting the rig with the new owner’s name. Its legs are 200 m high.
Noble Corporation said: “We are excited that the new South Harbour facilities have made it possible for one of our rigs to visit Aberdeen for the first time ever.”
The Port of Aberdeen said: “South Harbour’s tidally unrestricted deepwater berths, extensive laydown space and heavy lift capacity make Aberdeen an attractive option for larger vessels.”
