Harbour, BP sign Humberside CCS agreement

11 April 2023

Harbour Energy (60%) and minority partner BP have agreed to develop the Viking carbon capture, transport and storage (CCS) project, they said April 11. Near the heavily industrialised Humber region, Viking CCS is open to third parties including seaborne imports of the liquefied inert gas.

Subject to the outcome of the Track 2 Cluster Sequencing Process, a final investment decision is expected in 2024. The project could be operational as early as 2027 and potentially storing up to 10mn tonnes/year of CO2 by 2030.

Viking could unlock up to £7bn of investment across the full value chain over the next decade, creating over 10,000 jobs during construction, and providing an estimated £4bn of gross value add to the region. For more information please see here.
