Aberdeen-based e-learning company Mintra has joined forces with The Mission to Seafarers with the provision of mental health support, it said January 13. Seafarers around the world who are struggling with mental health will be able to follow its Wecare courses on mintra.com free of charge. Previously this was beyond the reach of many individuals and small companies.
The WeCare programme was developed by The Mission to Seafarers as more seafarers have experienced poor mental health. Financial pressures and a breakdown in communication with loved ones at home were the main causes of this.
Financial Wellbeing explores the link between money, relationships and mental health. It promotes financial coping strategies such as budgeting, saving and risk assessments. Social Wellbeing looks at how social media and texting – the most common forms of communication with family members onshore – can impact on long-distance relationships.
Mintra CEO Kevin Short said: “Seafarers can now access WeCare courses from any device with an internet connection – a phone, laptop or a computer in a port welfare centre – and instantly get the support they need… They just purchase the course and immediately start learning.” For more details, please see here.
