Fisheries Liaison Officers: roles and responsibilities

Each Operator is obliged by the terms of their offshore licences to appoint an FLO as the acknowledged point of contact within the Operator’s organisation for the relevant government departments and fishing organisations. The role of the FLO is described in each licence. Whilst licences in the early licensing rounds did not necessarily require the appointment of an FLO, it is recommended that the FLO duties should be extended to all areas of the Operator’s activities.
