The oil & gas and fishing industries in the UK have a long-standing collaborative history, ensuring safety and adherence to good practices in their joint operations. A key aspect of this collaboration is the requirement, since the early 1980s, for oil and gas operators to appoint a Fisheries Liaison Officer (FLO) to coordinate with government departments and fishing organisations.
This document serves as a guideline, detailing the current procedures and arrangements for fisheries liaison. This latest version, an update to issue No. 8 published in November 2023, includes an expanded section on assessing fishing claims, incorporating amendments made in consultation with relevant parties, reflecting recent changes in the field.
