Communications Adviser

London or Aberdeen

Looking to take the next step in your communications career, gain hands-on experience in a busy press office and work at the heart of a fast-moving news agenda?

We’re looking for a Communications Adviser to join our Corporate Affairs team and support communications across our press office, media relations, digital channels, campaigns and events.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your communications career at the forefront of the UK’s offshore energy industry. You’ll keep a close eye on the national daily news agenda, politics and current affairs, helping us respond to emerging stories and communicate the issues that matter to our members and the wider sector.

You’ll already have some practical communications experience and be looking for an opportunity to build on it. We’re particularly interested in candidates who have gained exposure to press or media activity, whether through a communications role, placement, internship, relevant studies or another setting.

What you’ll be doing

As part of our collaborative Corporate Affairs team, you’ll:

  • Support our busy press office, responding to media enquiries and monitoring the news agenda.
  • Create engaging content including press releases, statements, articles, speeches, briefings and digital content.
  • Build relationships with journalists and help prepare OEUK spokespeople for media opportunities.
  • Support campaigns, events and communications around key industry issues.
  • Help manage communications across press, website and social media channels.
  • Support sensitive and fast-moving communications where timely and accurate responses are important.
  • Build relationships with OEUK members and develop an understanding of their priorities.
  • Participate in the press office on-call rota for out-of-hours media enquiries.

What we’re looking for

You’ll have some relevant experience in communications, PR or a related area, gained through employment, internships, placements, relevant studies or another route.

We’re particularly looking for someone who:

  • Has practical communications experience and an understanding of how press and media activity works.
  • Writes clearly and confidently for different audiences and channels.
  • Has a strong interest in the national daily news agenda, politics and current affairs, with an understanding of what makes an engaging story.
  • Can manage competing priorities and produce accurate work to deadlines.
  • Builds positive relationships with colleagues, journalists, members and other stakeholders.
  • Has experience creating content for digital or social media channels.
  • Is proactive, collaborative and keen to continue developing their communications skills.
  • Has an interest in UK energy, business, policy or current affairs.

Experience or study in journalism would be relevant, particularly where it has provided experience of news, media or press activity, but it is not essential. Our focus is on finding someone with a strong foundation in communications and the potential to continue developing within the role.

What you’ll gain

This is a great opportunity to build on your communications experience while gaining greater exposure to press office and media relations work.

You’ll broaden your experience across media relations, campaigns, reputation management, speechwriting and digital communications, working alongside experienced colleagues across communications, marketing and external affairs.

You’ll also develop specialist knowledge of the UK’s offshore energy industry and gain experience communicating about issues that feature in national media, business and policy discussions.

Why work at OEUK?

At OEUK, you’ll develop your communications career within the leading trade association for the UK’s offshore energy industry, working on topical issues that matter to our members and the wider sector.

You’ll be part of a collaborative Corporate Affairs team, gaining valuable experience across communications while helping to strengthen OEUK’s voice with media, members and other key audiences.
