THREE60 Energy and Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) were proud to sponsor Doddie’s Grand Tour, a charity event that raised funds for the Doddie Aid Foundation and vital research into Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The tour, which saw participants travel from Dublin to Edinburgh, made a special stop at Annan House, Palmerston Road, Aberdeen, AB11 5QN on Friday, 7 February 2025.
The Doddie Aid team arrived in Aberdeen after their journey from Balmoral as part of the charity bike ride. This stop provided a much-needed break before continuing their journey to Stonehaven. Although the exact timing was not confirmed in advance, the cyclists arrived between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and supporters came out to cheer them on, showing their solidarity for the cause. Donations were also accepted via the link on the Doddie Aid website.
Walter Thain, CEO of THREE60 Energy, shared his excitement about the event:
“We at THREE60 Energy are thrilled to support Doddie’s Grand Tour from Dublin to Edinburgh, as they pass through and stop for a comfort break at our offices in the heart of Aberdeen. This event not only brings communities together but also raises vital funds for the Doddie Aid Foundation. Supporting research to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease is of utmost importance, and we are proud to be part of such a meaningful cause.”
Mark Wilson, HSE and Operations Director at OEUK, added:
“We are proud to stand alongside the Doddie Aid Foundation and its supporters. This event is a true example of what can be achieved when people come together for a cause that means so much to so many. It’s an honour to be part of such a significant initiative and to help raise awareness and funds for MND research.”
The Doddie’s Grand Tour was a key part of the Doddie Aid fundraising event, which ran from January through February this year. The culmination of Doddie Aid was a multi-day cycling journey to deliver the match ball for one of the Six Nations fixtures that Scotland played in. The event culminated in Edinburgh on Saturday, 8 February 2025, just in time for the Scotland versus Ireland match on 9 February.
In total, around 400 participants took part in this year’s event, including 200 cyclists and 200 support crew. The riders and their support teams raised funds to support the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, which has committed over £18 million to MND research. This effort aims to find a cure for the disease and to improve the lives of those affected by it.
This year’s route took the cyclists through Scotland, including stops in Aberdeen and Stonehaven. Local rugby clubs, including Aberdeen Grammar RFC, Aberdeen Wanderers RFC, Gordonions RFC, Dyce RFC, and Aberdeenshire RFC, volunteered to assist with chaperoning and support along the way.
Doddie’s Grand Tour followed the success of last year’s All Roads Lead to Rome event. Former Scotland captain and Lion Rob Wainwright headed up a team of Scottish legends taking on the ride, encouraging others to challenge themselves and raise money for this important cause.
Support for the charity was appreciated in various forms—whether by attending the event in person on Friday or making an online donation at the Doddie Aid Foundation website: Doddie Aid.
