Decommissioning specialists Well-Safe Solutions is to buy Awilco Drilling’s WilPhoenix semi-submersible rig for an undisclosed sum, it said May 4.
The WilPhoenix (pictured below, credit Well-Safe Solutions), now 40 years old,is an established presence in the North Sea, having been extensively refurbished and upgraded in 2016. Well-Safe Solutions will optimise and recertify the rig for future well plug and abandonment activity.
CEO Phil Milton said: “The addition of our second semi-submersible rig, to be known as the Well-Safe Defender, is a landmark achievement for the business.”
He added that strong demand for its other dedicated semi-submersible rig, the Well-Safe Guardian, showed the business case for further specialised assets. “We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Awilco Drilling,” he said.
