Privately held Neptune Energy has won Gold Standard status under the United Nation’s Environmental Programme (UNEP), it said November 1. The award recognises its ambitious plans to reduce methane emissions to net zero by 2030.
Neptune Energy said it has put clear plans in place to cut methane emissions from its operations and was committed to transparent reporting and upgrading its equipment. It also uses “the latest technologies to detect and reduce methane emissions, eliminating routine flaring.”
Earlier this year, Neptune joined the Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions Initiative, a project to cut emissions of the harmful greenhouse gas and developed by the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI).
Neptune is also working with the Environmental Defense Fund. It is using advanced drone technologies to measure methane emissions at its operated Cygnus platform (pictured below, courtesy Neptune) in the UK North Sea.
